Message They are what I'm looking for. I wouldn't even consider my self an amature photographer, yet I know digital zoom is crap. I'd like something I can bring to a baseball game, and zoom in on players. With that same camera, I want to be able to take video clips with sound if I want. I originally looked at camcorders for an all in one (sorry if your skin crawled :) ), but found they would be less than stellar results, even less than the current POS I have.

SLR's I've seen in a reasonable (sub $800 price range) don't have an optical zoom (I'm guessing because you use the lense to zoom in) never mind video capability.
